sigma鏡頭收購sigma recently added “Merrill” to the name of its SD1 flagship DSLR to honor the co-creator of the camera’s Foveon X3 sensor. Today the company announced that both its DP1 and DP2 compact cameras will also be getting the new sensor — and the name. The X3 is at the heart of both new cameras: it layers three 15.3-megapixel sensors to capture red, green, and blue information discretely for every given pixel location. The DP1 Merrill features a fixed 19mm f/2.8 lens, while the DP2 Merrill brings a 30mm f/2.8 lens to the party. Both cameras are retaining their previous form factors, though they’re both getting upgraded with a new three-inch, 920,000 pixel TFT display; both manual focus and VGA movie recording are also onboard. If you’d like to pick one up for yourself, you’ll have to hold on for just a moment — a company representative informed us that sigma鏡頭收購sigma is aiming for a May or June release with the DP2, with the DP1 to follow later in the summer or fall.
